St. Stephen’s Sunday Supper (SSSS)
St. Stephen's Sunday Supper is a free hot meal served from 1 - 2 PM on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sunday of each month. The meal is run by volunteers and open to everyone. This community meal strengthens our bond with the neighborhood, helps us to get to know our neighbors personally and allows us to better understand community needs.
The Mending Ministry
This ministry was started to provide a sewing service for our Sunday Supper guests. We repair all kinds of clothing as our guests enjoy their lunch. Need a new jacket zipper? Some buttons? A hem or some patches? We are happy to mend or to give you access to a sewing machine and tools to get some more life out of your clothing. Already a sewer? We’ll hook you up with a machine to help!
Blood Pressure Screening
On the last Sunday of the month, we provide blood pressure screening for anyone at the Sunday Supper meal. Volunteers are associate members of the Gates Ambulance service and members of the parish. While blood pressures are taken, volunteers have an opportunity to get to know people by name, and provide a listening ear.
Mindfulness Meditation (MM) is the practice of cultivating non-judgmental awareness in day to day life. The MM ministry at St. Stephen’s was developed to help people improve a sense of well-being and to better manage the stresses of everyday life. We invite the community into St Stephen’s worship home every Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 PM for an informal session of guided meditations, poem readings and discussion.
The Sewing Workshop began in June 2015 to extend beyond our Sunday Supper Mending Ministry to teaching and encouraging those interested in learning to sew, knit or crochet. On Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm, please come and join us in this fully-equipped shop for sewing, knitting and crochet projects. All are welcome from ages 12 and up. Children under 12 should bring an adult companion.
